Double Degree Doctoral in Pharmaceutical Sciences

Faculty of Pharmacy UGM offers doctoral double-degree programmes with reputable partner universities around the world to promote academic excellence and global exposure. Students enrolled in this programme will spend the first two (2) years of study at UGM and the second two (2) years at the partner university.

The available programmes are:

  1. Double Degree Doctor in Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS) UGM – Leiden University, The Netherlands
  2. Double Degree Doctor in Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS) UGM – University of Groningen, The Netherlands

STUDY PLAN
All doctoral candidates must follow the study plan as specified below. The study plan consists of regular mandatory courses at UGM (Years 1 and 2 of the Doctor in Pharmaceutical Sciences/DPS programme) and at the partner university (Years 3 and 4 of the double-degree programme), as well as one Ph.D./doctoral thesis (dissertation) written in English.

Two versions of the thesis may be prepared in accordance with the thesis formatting standards of each institution; however, both versions must contain the same content. The arrangement of the study period and the duration of stay of the doctoral candidates during the programme may be adjusted based on the study conditions approved by the supervisors from both universities.

MANDATORY COURSES

First and second year :

at UGM, 4 SKS (semester credit units)* = 6 ECTS in total

Third and fourth year :

at partner universities

  • Research methodology for Ph.D. (FAS3220101, 2 SKS (semester credit units))
  • Scientific writing (FAS3220102, 2 SKS (semester credit units))
  • Elective courses (supporting topics for thesis/dissertation)

Semester 5 – 8

  • Scientific Integrity Course
  • Research Activity
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Dissertation Exam

Ph.D. Thesis/Dissertation*

The Ph.D. Thesis/Dissertation has to be submitted at both institutions. The Ph.D. Thesis/Dissertation is integrated in the study plan of the DDP programme as follows:

Semester 2 (8 SKS (semester credit units))

  • Proposal writing based on basic comprehensive skills (FAS3220201, 6 SKS (semester credit units))
  • Monitoring and evaluation of dissertation research progress I (FAS3220201, 2 SKS (semester credit units))

Semester 3 (4 SKS (semester credit units))

  • Monitoring and evaluation of dissertation research progress II (FAS3220301, 4 SKS (semester credit units))

Semester 4 (4 SKS (semester credit units))

  • Monitoring and evaluation of dissertation research progress III (FAS3220401, 4 SKS (semester credit units))

Semester 5 (16 SKS (semester credit units))

  • Monitoring and evaluation of dissertation research progress IV (FAS3220501, 4 SKS (semester credit units))
  • Presentation of Dissertation Result (FAS3220502, 6 SKS (semester credit units))

Semester 6 – 7

  • Assessment of Dissertation Script eligibility (FAS3220503, 6 SKS (semester credit units))
  • Research activity

Semester 8 (16 SKS (semester credit units))

  • Dissertation Examination (FAS3220601, 16 SKS (semester credit units))
*) 1 SKS (semester credit units) equals to 1.5 European Credit Transfer System (ECTS)

The course lists at UGM and partner universities may be subject to change, both universities will update each other on any course changes.

At the start of semester 2 in the first year of the DPS programme at UGM, doctoral candidates must have completed all Semester 1 courses in their first year at UGM in order to be able to continue the DPS programme and apply for admission to partner universities (for the third year of the DPS programme).

Documents Requirements for Admission

Below is the list of required documents that applicants must prepare and submit as part of the PhD Double/Joint Degree application process.

  • Diploma certificate(s) from previous degree program(s)
  • Academic transcript(s) from previous degree program(s), including all pages and cumulative GPA
  • Valid accreditation certificate/proof of the previous study program
  • Certificate of Academic Potential Test results, such as TPDA PLTI, PAPs UGM, or TPA BAPPENAS
  • English language proficiency certificate, such as AcEPT UGM, TOEP PLTI, IELTS (from institutions recognized by British Council/IALF/IDP), TOEFL iBT, or TOEFL ITP (from institutions recognized by IIEF)
  • Study permit or official study assignment letter from the employer/institution for applicants who are currently employed
  • Medical certificate, drug-free certificate, and color blindness-free certificate
  • Valid MoU document or official scholarship award letter (if applicable)
  • Statement of purpose describing the applicant’s motivation, expectations, proposed research topic, future career plans, and prospective supervisor(s) who have been contacted
  • Preliminary dissertation research proposal, essay, or other specific requirements determined by the study program
  • Statement Letter of Document Authenticity
